About

Hiya, it’s Amaya.

My current work is in trans and queer-focused public health policy and organizing, for which I have received recognition from the Alameda County Tobacco Control Coalition and California Assemblyman Alex Lee. I have previously participated in coalitions related to health education, school safety, homelessness, and trans issues.

Between 2014 and 2017, I was a research assistant on projects in phonetics, phonology, and psycholinguistics at UC San Diego, where I graduated magna cum laude in linguistics and computer science. In 2018, I was an audio processing intern for The Language Conservancy’s online dictionary of Crow (Apsáalooke).

Colleagues and co-conspirators have called me “the queen of public comment,” a “research wizard,” and “the serrano pepper of [their] lives.”
